1. Sunscreens/ CC Creams
Your mama and your dermatologist have always told you this, but maybe it fell to the wayside. Well this summer is your chance to listen! Besides protecting against cancer (big deal!), sunscreens also prevent wrinkles and dark spots. With great sunless tanner choices these days (see #4), you aren't giving up much.
My favorites:
Shade notes: I wear It Cosmetics CC Cream in light medium & medium throughout the year
2. Hats
Bucket hat, floppy hat, baseball cap, visor - whatever shape works for you, these are crucial to get the rays off of your face and make it easier to take a beach snooze!
3. Antioxidant/ Vitamin C serums
Vitamin C is a miracle worker - lightens dark spots, improves skin texture and protects against free radicals from the sun and pollution! If you're like me and like to keep your skincare routine simple - add one of these serums before your sunscreen and you'll love the difference.
I'm currently loving the Summer Fridays' "CC Me Vitamin C serum", but clean skincare brand, Ghost Democracy's "Lightbulb Vitamin C Serum" is also fantastic and the best bang for your buck. If you're willing to splurge, Skinceuticals' "C E Ferulic" serum is always a crowd favorite.
4. Sunless Tanners
These days you can get a tan without sacrificing your skin - enter sunless tanners! I use all of these for different reasons and I'm always here to answer any questions. My top picks:
Best overall (especially for dry skin/ face): Isle of Paradise drops can mix in any moisturizer, gives great color, and is vegan/ cruelty free. To minimize # drops, use dark (I do 5 drops per arm/ leg/ area, 2-3 for my face)
Best gradual tan: The Tan-luxe butter doesn't require 10 coats to get a color and has a little shimmer right when it goes on!
Best kits: When I want to be a little darker for photos, events, etc, I love tanning mousses. The St Tropez x Ashley Graham kit has rave reviews and the Tan Again color is so natural and amazing - it even needs to be kept in the fridge! It comes with great application and exfoliating mitts.
Best for Hands/ Feet: After applying, I'll lightly mist my hands and feet with the St Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist
Some tips:
- Make sure to exfoliate, shave, and moisturize the night before
- Use a thick moisturizer on your knees, elbows, feet, hands, and dry spots before applying
- Grab a cheap sweatsuit you can wear to bed in case a little color transfers
- Less is more - you can always add a gradual tanner on top but you can't go back if you turn streaky, trust that it will develop!
XOXO, Kaitlin Rose (my DMs are always open!)
